East coast trip was stinkin amazing!!! Had toooooo much funnnn!!!!
DAY 1 Wednesday
Went to LAX to catch my flight to Houston and it was the first time ever on a plane. It was a fun experience and the food was mediocre. Got to Houston-Bush international for a layover and holy snaps that is a stinkin nice airport. Caught the flight from Houston to DC and arrived in DC around 7ish at Reagan National. Took the Metro all the way to Rockville, Maryland where I stayed at the PhD student I worked with at UCI, Steve, who now works at the NIH. For dinner that night Steve, Ish(his wife) and I went to eat some Indian fusion food and it was not so great. The taste buds give it about a 6.0/10.0. I then prepped a little for the interview and went to bed.
DAY 2 Thursday
Woke up at 6 am to catch the Metro to the Naval Base for the interview at USUHS, the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. It is a military school, and even though I was kind of reluctant to want to go, I actually got really into and now seriously consider going to the school. First the medical school education is free, they pay you as an O-1 Lieutenant ~$2300, give you $1600 for rent, and $200 to buy food and such. The drawback is that you have to serve seven years after your residency so hmmmm that part is blerg but we’ll see. The training facility is actually sweet and the experience I think would be amazing.
Afterwards I got to visit the National Institute of Health, NIH, which is literally across the street from the Naval Base. For those of you who do not know, the NIH is the primary source of all research and research grant money. It is basically where diseases are born and cured…hahah….and it was amazing.
For dinner ate some bomskies Thai food and then went to bed early to prepare for my journey to NYC baby!
DAY 3 Friday
Waited for an hour in Dupont Circle in DC and rode the Washington Deluxe Bus to NYC. The bus ride was surprisingly very comfortable and awesome actually. If I end up living in DC I can see myself going to NYC every other weekend on this bus for only $20!!! Got to Penn Station in NYC at around 3:30 which is right next to Madison square garden. I got a little lost trying to find my cousins place but finally found the right route. However, it was about 4:15 and I found out that from 4-5pm there is a taxi shift change and if you are not on the way, then the cabs don’t pick you up. I was on about 37th street and had to go to 75th street, and about 5 cabs turned me down, so with luggage I had to hike the 40 blocks……BLERGGGGGGGG. I got to NYC and saw my cousin Janet Noona and HUDSON!!! My niece!! Such a cutieeeeee. For dinner Janet and Brad took me to this little Italian restaurant in the upper east side and it was sooo yummy.
DAY 4 Saturday
I was woken up at about 7am by my niece jumping on my bed telling me to wake up, and so we went to go eat some bombbbb breakfast. I figured out that living in New York is ridiculous. The housing and the FOOD is soooooo expensive and pricey, holy snaps. Today was the day I toured the city. I started out at Central park and then walking down to midtown where I got to see the Plaza hotel, the underground Apple store and trump tower.
Then I had to go bathroom, the bigger one, really badly and waltzed into Rockefeller center sweating bullets. I went into J Crew to use their facilities and picked some random sweater to try on and pretend I’m interested so I can use the bathroom. It turns out that the sweater was pretty cool and I bought it. I then made my way down Broadway street and saw the rainbow room, Times Square, the Chrysler Building, Empire State building and the Bank of America building. I then took the subway to ground zero and OMG, how ghetto is the subway. Seriously there were like 5 people who literally smelled like urine….blerg...spent some time at Ground Zero and then made my way to Jo’s Pizza, surprise surprise it was soo good. Enjoying my pizza I toured the NYU campus which is kind of weird. They don’t really have an entrance to the school but basically sporadic buildings within a 3 block radius. Then, being the California boy I am, without an umbrella it started to pour. I made my way back to the house and played with Hudson till dinner time.
Brad and Janet took me to this AWESOME Sushi fusion place downtown and OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG…………it was the best sushi I have ever had in my entire life. The sauce, the rolls, sooooooo gooooooood. And of course sooo expensive. It was probably like $300 dollars for the three of us. They totally, totally spoiled me and ruined all my future New York trips.
Day 5 Sunday
Again Hudson came to wake me up but this time at 8 so it wasn’t too bad. We went to the Central Park zoo and I got to see sea lions, polar bears, snow leopards, snow monkeys and lots of birds. For brunch we went to Shake Shack on 79th street and Columbus, omgggg the best burgers I have ever eaten in my life, no joke. Then I met up with David Choi and we met up with Donna Lee and had some Italian food for lunch….mannnnn….all I did in NYC is eat….then David and I went back to DC and ate at PF Changs for dinner and even though someone might not agree, our waitress was pretty cool.
Day 6 Monday
Today was my interview at Georgetown and it was blerggg. I loved the school and the curriculum and everything. But the interview did not go so great….blergggg, hopefully I’ll get in…please pray for me……after we went to go eat at Old Ebbitts and holy snapssss….seriously the best crab cake in the world and the Lamb chops were stinkin good as well…..again soo expensive, but it seems like I’m super lucky to have people who like me a lot…..then we took the double decker tour and I got to see all the awesome sights and buildings: the White House, the Treasury, the Washington Monument, the Jefferson thingy, the Lincoln Memorial, etc. Then for discretionary purposes the rest of the night is on a need to know basis…
Day 7 Tuesday
Went to the airport to check in and check in our bags and then took the metro back to Chinatown in DC and ate some Chinese food. It wasn’t that great but the Orange chicken was pretty bombskies. Went back to catch our respective flights and finally I am home.
